yes, that's my eye

06.13.07 ~ 07:30PM the post that almost wasn't

so yeah, i rarely post these days. this weblog is a thing of the past, a relic of my youth and the youth of the web. at certain times though, i feel that need again - the need to just share my life, share what is on my mind.

today after work, i'm having some time to myself. my girlfriend is out with friends, and i had some time to do whatever i pleased. i debated going out with friends, grabbing a beer somewhere, shooting the shit, etc, etc, but i ended up just coming home. i'm glad i did. i made some dinner - some tasty trader joe's indian grub along with some basmati rice. for the hell of it i decided mix a few drinks during the process of cooking and eating and then the mind starts to reminisce somewhere along the line and now i'm blogging.

i sat down after dinner, put on some john mayer, his first album, his best. instantly i was flooded with memories. for some reason the mix of vanilla vodka, incense, and john mayer brought back a wealth of emotions and thoughts of times past. the innocence we experience in our early 20's is staggering. that life is now so foreign to me. i thought about relationships past, each one matching a song i was listening to. i thought about friends that have moved away; i thought about where i used to live; i thought about writing this weblog. i used to share everything here.

these days, things are much different. i feel old. i don't want to feel this way. it was even an effort to make myself get up and write this post. i figured, eh, what the hell, who's going to even read it. but then it struck me that this blog of mine, whether anyone reads it or not, is a record of me. i can look back to it, and remember. that's worth it.

05.09.07 ~ 01:37PM goodbye customer service

so, another cynical and angry post must be made. last night, we went to d's after work to get some tasty beer and pizza, and discovered a 7.95 one topping pizza special. given that d's pizza is quite excellent, we passed up veggie dogs and fries for a 1/2 mushroom 1/2 banana pepper pizza. after waiting forever to even get our check, i discovered our pizza was 12 dollars instead of 8... i figured they just made a mistake so while paying i brought it up...

the guy at the counter told me that we got a two topping pizza, not the special. i asked for 'the special' while ordering, and have done this countless times at other establishments, especially b/c since i don't eat meat, i frequently do a 1/2 meat 1/2 veg pizza when out with friends. after we bickered back and forth he told me 'i guess you'll know next time' so then i guess they get no tip. i crossed out the tip on the receipt and left nothing.

where has customer service gone? what happened to the customer always being right? i really think it's a thing of the past, with corporations and now even small businesses screwing people at every chance they get. the cable company, utilities, bar and restaurance service, you name it. i'm sick of it. there ends my rant :)

05.01.07 ~ 03:38PM well, that lasted long

the smoking ban is already gone, that lasted a few hours. screw this pathetic city. all young people of pittsburgh, leave, get out of here, this place is worthless.

05.01.07 ~ 09:03AM well i'll be damned

the smoking ban, or smoking bang as i keep mistyping it, actually went into effect in allegheny county. yesterday at this time, i was pretty sure there was no way in hell this would actually be happening. i figured some judge somewhere would hold it off for a while longer...

something good has actually happened in pittsburgh. i'm amazed, this actually gives me a glimmer of hope for this town. common pleas judge michael a. della vecchia, i commend you for denying the motion to delay this ban. nice work. now if we could get our real estate tax situation under control, i'd actually have a small amount of faith in the local government.

01.17.07 ~ 11:29AM fare thee well

farewell to champ & scott, and best of luck in the big move to the big city, NYC. we had a fantastic going away dinner last night @ point brugge, in which my meal consisted of usual fare of moules frites and a leffe blonde. it's definitely sad to see them leave pittsburgh, as so many do, but i can honestly see them happier in new york, so i can only wish them both the best :)

06.28.06 ~ 11:22AM another blog

in my expanding of the shawnwall.com weblog universe, i just added a new blog called PGHMOD over on blogger. yea, i know, it's a cookie cutter blog but its just so easy to use. the content of the site revolves around the sale of my current home in swissvale and the purchase of my new mid-century atomic ranch in ridgewood manor, along with the furniture and other retro goodies i find in my travels.
